Reflective Mantra Art is a term that I coined for the art that I began to produce over the years.
After painting an image, which is usually a reflection of a spiritual nature, I use calligraphy to write the mantra ‘waheguru’ in Punjabi (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) all over the image as a meditation. The sentiment behind this is that all creation, every molecule and particle has God’s Presence embodied in it. This hints at the illusionary nature of our world and at the same time implies that the spirit surrounds us.
Waheguru -Pronounced “Wah-hay-guroo”. Wah means Infinite, hay means Thou, and Guru means the Higher Self (the Divine Teacher within you).
Vibrant oil pastels blend beautifully to provide just the right colorful palette for the background of the meditative mantra. The resulting effect resembles Pointillism, which was developed in 1886. Branching from Impressionism it involves paintings in which small, distinct dots of pure color are applied in patterns to form images. Depending on the size, each image can contain between 500 to over 20,000 hand-written ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ‘s.
It is my sincere hope that I am able to translate emotions into art so that it creates a place where fellow travellers pause for a moment to reflect on the message.
