ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ॥ ਜੈਸੇ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਮਲ ਅਲੇਪ ॥
The God-conscious being is always unattached, as the lotus in the water remains detached.
– Guru Granth Sahib, p. 272
The color red within many cultures symbolizes good fortune, joy, luck and happiness. The lotus flower in itself represents purity, elegance and beauty. Even though it is rooted in the mud, the lotus rises to blossom clean and bright, symbolizing purity and resurrection. The leaves and flowers are borne high above the water. It is often compared to the enlightened being who emerges undefiled from the chaos and confusion of the world.
Just like the lotus, we too have the power to rise from the mud, bloom out of the darkness and radiate into the world.
The word, Waheguru – ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ– is pronounced “Wah-hay-guroo”. Wah means Infinite, hay means Thou, and Guru means Higher Self, or the Divine Teacher within each sentient being.
This is the mantra which has been lovingly handwritten minutely in the painting to portray the omnipresent Divine energy.
